About WTC files
A .WTC file typically serves one of two completely different functions, causing significant confusion for users trying to open one.
1. Wikitude Target Collection (Augmented Reality)
Most commonly (approx. 60%), a .WTC file is a Wikitude Target Collection used in augmented reality apps built with the Wikitude SDK. These files act as a database of "target images" that the mobile app recognizes in the real world.
The Friction: Users often mistakenly believe a .WTC file is a standard image archive (like a ZIP of .JPGs). It is not. The Wikitude Studio analyzes source images and converts them into a proprietary binary format consisting of extracted feature points and mathematical descriptors. This process is effectively one-way; you cannot "convert" a .WTC file back into high-quality original images. It is optimized for machine vision, not human viewing.
2. Sage Wage Easy Time Card (Payroll)
In corporate payroll environments, a .WTC file is a Wage Time Card generated by Sage Wage Easy or exported from workforce management platforms like Tanda.
The Solution: Unlike the AR version, this file is actually just a standard XML text file masquerading with a different extension. The friction here is simply that Windows does not know how to handle the .WTC extension. Users can often simply rename the file to XML to view it in a browser, or import it into Microsoft Excel to view the timesheet data in a spreadsheet format. For archiving, these should be converted to PDF.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WTC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PND, DDI and BSC files.
The WTC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WTC converter.
