About WSM files
The .WSM file is primarily a Wise Script Installer file or a Wise Package Studio Merge Module used to build software installation packages for Windows. Developers historically used Wise Installation System to compile these scripts into executable installers. You need to convert or extract these files because the format is entirely obsolete. The original software was discontinued by Symantec over a decade ago, making it incredibly difficult to open these files on modern systems without maintaining a legacy virtual machine. Standard users cannot natively read or execute the contents. The most practical conversion targets are TXT to salvage the raw script data or standard ZIP and MSI formats to extract the embedded installation assets. However, this is a highly proprietary, closed format. Standard online converters fail to process it because it requires the original proprietary compilation engine. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting the content may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WSM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WSM file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Wise Package Studio or similar software from the "Windows Installer Scripting" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to WSM, try Wise Package Studio or another comparable tool in the "Windows Installer Scripting" category.
The WSM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WSM converter.
