About WRZ files

A .WRZ file is essentially a time capsule from the early days of the 3D web - specifically, a GZIP-compressed Virtual Reality Modeling Language (.WRL) world. Developed to minimize download times over dial-up connections, these files contain 3D scene descriptions, geometry, and textures. The key problem today is obsolescence; modern browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge no longer support the NPAPI plugins required to render them, effectively locking the content away. Additionally, because the file is compressed, you cannot inspect the source code in a text editor without first expanding it. To modernize these assets, you should convert them immediately. For editing in current software like Blender or Autodesk Maya, convert the WRZ to OBJ or FBX. If you intend to display the model on a modern website, GLB (glTF) is the superior, widely supported standard. For 3D printing applications, converting to STL allows for easy slicing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WRZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The WRZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WRZ converter.
