About WPJ files
The .WPJ file extension is primarily associated with Works Portfolio Project files, originally created by the long-discontinued Microsoft Works suite. These proprietary files act as containers or indexes for a collection of documents, utilizing UTF-16 (LE) text encoding internally. Secondary uses include Wincross tabulation projects (which are structurally standard ZIP files), Watcom C/C++ compiler projects, and Kinco HMIware files. The main disadvantage of the .WPJ format is its extreme obsolescence and closed ecosystem. Because Microsoft Works is dead, modern operating systems cannot open these files natively. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a proprietary project file, meaning often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters completely fail to process it because they lack the required legacy parsing libraries.
