About WOT files

The .wot file extension primarily represents two entirely different proprietary file types. The first is a legacy WebEx Recording File developed by Cisco Systems. It contains video, audio, and presentation data from older WebEx online meetings. The second is a Web Of Trust File used by PGP (Pretty Good Privacy). This file stores OpenPGP information like security key IDs, trusted names, and cryptographic signatures. To open the WebEx variation, you historically needed the now-deprecated WebEx Player. The PGP variation requires legacy PGP Desktop or OpenPGP-compatible email clients. Both formats pose massive accessibility challenges today. The WebEx .wot file is an obsolete, closed video format that has been completely replaced by ARF and WRF. It will not play in standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player, nor is it supported by modern web browsers. The PGP variant is tied to discontinued software and is stored as a compressed Bzip2 archive, making it inaccessible without specific cryptographic tools. Users attempting to recover legacy WebEx meetings typically want to convert .wot to MP4, AVI, or WMV for standard playback and long-term preservation. For the PGP variant, users may want to extract the contents to a standard ZIP or raw TXT to inspect the OpenPGP keys. Because both formats are closed and largely unsupported by modern systems, standard online video or archive converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format or a standard Bzip2 header, extraction or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WOT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WBT, UCF and ARF files.

The WOT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WOT converter.
