Convert WM2D to another file type
To convert WM2D simulations to another format, you need Working Model 2D or other Cad software.
Convert a file to WM2D
To convert other file formats to the "2D Motion Simulation Model" file type, you need software like Working Model 2D or a similar tool.
About WM2D files
The .WM2D file format is a proprietary project file used to store 2D mechanical models, kinematic constraints, and dynamic physics simulations. These files are exclusively created and opened by Working Model 2D, a specialized engineering simulation software developed by Design Simulation Technologies.
Because .WM2D is a closed, proprietary database rather than a standard CAD format, it is extremely difficult to share. Users face strict disadvantages: the files require an expensive desktop license to open, they cannot be natively viewed in standard web browsers, and they are completely unreadable in general-purpose drawing tools like Adobe Illustrator or even basic 2D CAD viewers.
To share results with clients or colleagues, engineers must convert the active simulation into an AVI or MP4 video file, or export the static 2D geometry out to a DXF file for standard CAD editing. However, you will lose all dynamic physics constraints (like springs, dampers, and motors) during export.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to convert externally. The file stores mathematical parameters that require the original Working Model physics engine to interpret and render. Standard online converters fail to process it. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. We can safely inspect the internal hexadecimal structure, extract text metadata, and if our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WM2D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WM2D file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Working Model 2D or similar software from the "2D Kinematics Simulation Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to WM2D, try Working Model 2D or another comparable tool in the "2D Kinematics Simulation Project" category.
The WM2D Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WM2D converter.
