Convert WM2D to another file type

To convert your WM2D file to another format, you need Working Model 2D or other Cad software.

Convert a file to WM2D

To convert other file formats to the "Physics Simulation Model" file type, you need software like Working Model 2D or a similar tool.

About WM2D files

A .WM2D file is a proprietary simulation project created by Working Model 2D, a physics software widely used in engineering education and kinetic design. Unlike a standard video file, this format stores the mathematical definitions of rigid bodies, constraints (joints, springs, ropes), actuators, and embedded scripts required to calculate motion in real-time.

The primary challenge with .WM2D files is that they are not static recordings; they are dynamic "recipes" that require the Working Model 2D engine to run. You cannot simply upload them to a generic online video converter because the physics must be calculated frame-by-frame by the software itself. Additionally, users often confuse this extension with WMV (Windows Media Video), leading to failed conversion attempts in standard media players.

To "convert" these files, the most effective workflow involves opening the project in the native software (or its free viewer) and using the specific export function for your goal:

Convert.Guru analyzes your WM2D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FLP, MPP and EAP files.

FAQ

If you want to convert WM2D file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Working Model 2D or similar software from the "2D Physics Simulation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to WM2D, try Working Model 2D or another comparable tool in the "2D Physics Simulation" category.

The WM2D Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WM2D converter.
