Extract text from diagnostic logs (WGL)
To convert WGL logs to another format, you need MotoScan or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Diagnostic Log File" file type, you need software like MotoScan or a similar tool.
The .WGL file extension primarily acts as a diagnostic application log generated by the MotoScan app or ScanMaster software. It captures raw vehicle diagnostic data, usually from BMW motorcycles via OBD-II adapters. Depending on the source, a .WGL file might also be a WebGL graphics data file for the game World of Goo, an aviation flight log for GRIBIDOCS, a Walk-through Graphics Library file for SGI Performer, or an IC test pattern for Cadence Modus.
These files are highly proprietary. Diagnostic logs are often locked in a format that only the originating app can accurately interpret. Users typically want to export vehicle telemetry to a spreadsheet for analysis, but the raw .WGL file prevents this. It requires the original software to parse the sensor readings. Similarly, game and CAD variations of .WGL are completely closed formats. You cannot simply open them in a standard text editor without seeing scrambled characters.
If the internal structure contains plain text, the ideal conversion targets are TXT or CSV. However, converting proprietary binary data often results in data loss.
The .WGL format is notoriously difficult to process because it completely lacks standardization. Standard online converters fail to process it because they cannot guess which of the five different variations your file is. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
