.WDS files primarily serve as 3D home design projects created by Data Becker 3D-HausDesigner. They store architectural layouts, room dimensions, and 3D object placements. Other software also uses the .WDS extension, including FASHIONLINQ Winda Technology or Lectra Modaris for garment apparel patterns, OASE WECS for water fountain show sequences, and IBM Tivoli Netcool for Web GUI definition packages. The main disadvantage of most .WDS files is their highly proprietary nature. Data Becker is defunct, making it extremely difficult to open legacy 3D-HausDesigner projects today. Users face vendor lock-in, and the files are not natively supported by web browsers or standard 3D viewing tools. Some files, like Wonders engineering data, are even encrypted, completely blocking third-party access. Converting these files depends entirely on the original software. For 3D house designs, exporting to OBJ or DXF from within the original legacy software is required to avoid losing 3D meshes and textures. For garment patterns, exporting to DXF (AAMA/ASTM format) is the industry standard. Explain why this file format is difficult to open or convert. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Because these are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters often fail to process them.
