About WAC files
The .WAC file extension serves multiple specialized industries, primarily functioning as a Jacquard weaving pattern data file or a compressed bioacoustic audio recording. In the textile industry, weaving machine patterns are generated by software like TEXCAD WAC-Designer to control electronic Jacquard looms. Alternatively, researchers use .WAC files for wildlife monitoring. These are proprietary, losslessly compressed audio recordings created by Wildlife Acoustics devices to record bird calls or bat echolocations over long periods. A smaller percentage of .WAC files store ASCII climate data for the WUFI hygrothermal analysis software by Fraunhofer IBP.
These formats are highly proprietary and strictly tied to specific hardware or expensive specialized software. You cannot open a .WAC weaving pattern in standard image editors, nor can you play a .WAC bioacoustic file in standard media players like VLC. The files are useless outside of their narrow ecosystems. Users typically need to convert textile .WAC files to standard image formats like PNG or BMP to view the pattern designs, or export bioacoustic .WAC files to WAV or FLAC to share the audio with other researchers. Climate data files often need conversion to CSV for analysis in spreadsheet applications.
Because these are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original hardware software can properly read or export the exact data layers. However, you can use convert.guru as your first step. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our analysis can inspect the file, detect the underlying structure, and show raw text or internal headers. If we detect a supported embedded format or ASCII structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WAC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WAC file to AWP, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC or APE, you can use TEXCAD WAC-Designer or similar software from the "Weaving and Bioacoustic Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to WAC, try TEXCAD WAC-Designer or another comparable tool in the "Weaving and Bioacoustic Data" category.
The WAC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WAC converter.
