About WDGT files

A .WDGT file is an interactive widget file. The vast majority of these files are created by Adobe Captivate for interactive e-learning courses. Other variations include legacy Apple Dashboard widgets for macOS and obsolete Opera browser widgets. Adobe Captivate is the main software used to author and run modern .WDGT files. Historically, Apple's Dashboard feature ran Mac widgets before being deprecated. The .WDGT format is heavily restricted and proprietary. It is essentially a wrapper around standard web files like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images. You cannot simply open a .WDGT file in a standard web browser without extracting it first. For Apple and Opera variants, the parent software is completely obsolete, making the files practically useless in their native state. For Adobe Captivate, they only function within an expensive software ecosystem. The best conversion target is a standard ZIP archive. By extracting the contents, you can access the raw HTML, CSS, JS, and image files. Standard online converters fail to process .WDGT files because they are not standard documents or media files.
