The .wdc extension is a classic example of a "container vs. content" misunderstanding. Most commonly, it is a project file created by Wondershare DVD Creator or DemoCreator. Unlike a standalone video file (like MP4 or MOV), a .wdc file contains no actual video footage. Instead, it is often a small XML-based instruction list that points to images, videos, and audio tracks stored elsewhere on your computer, along with menu designs and timeline settings.
This architecture creates a significant drawback: if you move the .wdc file to another computer or delete the original source media, the project breaks and will not open. You cannot play a .wdc file in VLC Media Player or upload it to YouTube. To make the content usable, you must open the project in the original Wondershare software and "Export" or "Burn" it to a standard format. For DVD projects, converting to ISO or a Video_TS folder is ideal for archiving. For screen recordings, exporting to MP4 ensures web compatibility.
Less frequently, a .wdc file might be a compiled class file used by WINDEV for software development, or a cached document file generated by Cisco WebEx. These formats are strictly proprietary; a WINDEV file is compiled code unreadable by humans, and a WebEx cache file is generally useless without the associated session context.
