A .WCM file primarily serves as a macro script used by Corel WordPerfect to automate repetitive typing tasks. However, the .WCM extension is heavily fragmented. It is also actively used by Lectra Modaris for 3D garment pattern designs, and by obsolete WinCAM 2000 software for screen recordings. Finally, it can represent a legacy Microsoft Works Communications Script.
The major disadvantage of the .WCM format is this fragmentation and its reliance on proprietary or obsolete systems. WordPerfect macros are closed scripts that are entirely useless outside the Corel ecosystem. Lectra Modaris files require expensive, industry-specific CAD software to open and edit. WinCAM files are outdated and completely unsupported on modern web browsers or operating systems.

WordPerfect macros can be opened as plain text (TXT) to salvage the script code, though you must manually rewrite them to use them in modern word processors.
