About WCF files

The .wcf extension is shared by three distinct formats, causing significant confusion for users.

  1. PenPower WorldCard Database (32%): Most commonly, this is a contact database created by WorldCard, a business card scanning solution. These files store digitized contact details (names, phones, emails) parsed from physical cards. The main friction point is proprietary lock-in; you cannot open a WorldCard .wcf file in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, or on your smartphone without converting it first. Users typically need to convert these to vCard (.VCF) or CSV to migrate contacts to modern CRMs or phones.
  2. Wavecom Configuration File (17%): This is a hardware settings file for Wavecom wireless modules (now often associated with Sierra Wireless). It contains binary or text-based instructions to configure modem waveforms. These are strictly for hardware interfacing and generally not meant for human editing.
  3. WebEx Saved Chat Session (0.9%): A legacy format from Cisco WebEx used to save meeting chat logs. While the extension is obscure, the friction here is artificial: these are often simple Plain Text files. Users struggle to open them because the operating system doesn't recognize the extension, but they can often be opened directly in Notepad++ or converted to TXT for archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WCF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WCFG, LCP, VTR and BRN files.

The WCF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WCF converter.
