About WAM files

The .WAM extension represents a frustrating collision of completely different file types, creating significant confusion for users. In the majority of server environments (approx. 77%), this file is a Web Access Monitor log generated by legacy add-ons for Microsoft IIS. These files contain critical traffic and usage data but are often stored in proprietary binary or raw text formats that refuse to parse correctly in standard editors like Notepad++. Users typically need to convert these logs into structured CSV or XLSX formats to analyze the data in Microsoft Excel or generic database tools.

However, in the consumer space, a .WAM file is frequently a WhatsApp audio message that has been renamed or saved with a non-standard extension. These files are usually AAC or Opus encoded audio streams that media players like VLC fail to recognize due to the incorrect extension. For these files, the friction is high: you have a voice note you cannot hear. The solution is converting the audio data to a standard MP3 or WAV container. Less commonly, you might encounter a Worms Armageddon mission file, which is a specific game data format strictly for use within the Team17 game engine.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WAM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WMA, WAV, MP3, CRYPT14, CRYPT1 and CRYPT12 files.
