Convert VRIMG to another file type
To convert VRIMG rendered images to another format, you need V-Ray Frame Buffer or other Raster Image software.
Convert a file to VRIMG
To convert other file formats to the "High Dynamic Range Image" file type, you need software like V-Ray Frame Buffer or a similar tool.
About VRIMG files
The .VRIMG file is a raw, high dynamic range (HDR) image file created by the V-Ray rendering engine. It is primarily used to store the direct, uncompressed output of a 3D render calculation. This format captures multiple render passes, or "elements" - such as diffuse, specular, reflection, refraction, and Z-depth - in a single file using 16-bit or 32-bit floating-point data. Professionals use this format to pause and resume renders or to retain maximum data for post-production compositing.
Opening .VRIMG files is difficult. They are highly proprietary to the Chaos software ecosystem and are primarily accessed through the V-Ray Frame Buffer (VFB) or Pdplayer. Real-world users face major disadvantages with this format: files routinely exceed several gigabytes in size, they require expensive software licenses to access, and they are completely unsupported by standard operating systems, web browsers, or common image viewers like Adobe Photoshop.
To share or composite these renders, users must convert them. The best target format for post-production is EXR (OpenEXR), which successfully retains the 32-bit multi-channel data. For quick client reviews or web sharing, converting to JPG or PNG is recommended, though this completely flattens the image, discards the HDR data, and drops all hidden render passes.
Because .VRIMG is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters routinely fail to process it. They lack the original V-Ray engine logic required to demultiplex the channels. If our analysis detects a supported underlying stream, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VRIMG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VRIMG file to JPG, EXR, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR or PSD, you can use V-Ray Frame Buffer or similar software from the "Raw Render Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to VRIMG, try V-Ray Frame Buffer or another comparable tool in the "Raw Render Data Storage" category.
The VRIMG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VRIMG converter.
