Extract text from VDP files

To convert other file formats to the "Diagnostic Log Package" file type, you need software like Xtralis VSC or a similar tool.
The .VDP file extension is most frequently associated with the VESDA Diagnostic Package, generated by intelligent smoke detection systems manufactured by Xtralis (now part of Honeywell). These files are critical for technicians troubleshooting fire safety infrastructure, as they bundle system event logs, sensitivity settings, and airflow data into a single compressed container. A common difficulty for facility managers is that .VDP files appear proprietary and unreadable without the specific Xtralis VSC (VESDA System Configurator) software, which often requires a specialized license or technician access. However, because these files often utilize standard ZIP compression internally, users can frequently bypass the proprietary lock-in by renaming the extension to ZIP to access the underlying text logs and CSV data.
Less commonly, a .VDP file may represent a Video Device Pack used by Milestone XProtect for managing surveillance camera drivers, or an encrypted data file associated with VirtualDub video processing workflows. In legacy development environments, it might also appear as a Deployment Project file for Microsoft Visual Studio.
