About VAC files

The .VAC extension represents a split in file identity, creating confusion for users who might have either a high-fidelity game asset or a legacy audio recording. The most common iteration (approx. 47%) is a Virt-A-Mate scene package. In the context of Virt-A-Mate, a specialized adult sandbox simulation, these files function as containers for scenes, morphs, and textures. Technically, they are often renamed ZIP archives. Users frequently struggle with these because the game requires specific folder structures to read them, and operating systems do not natively treat .VAC as a compressed folder. Converting these essentially means renaming the extension to ZIP to access the internal JSON logic or JPG textures.

Alternatively, a .VAC file may be a recorded phone call audio file generated by Voice Information Systems (VIS) or similar legacy telephony hardware. These proprietary audio files are notoriously difficult to play on modern media players like VLC or Windows Media Player due to obscure codecs designed for compression over quality. For legal teams or archivists handling these files, the friction lies in the inability to transcribe or share the audio without conversion. The best approach is converting these legacy streams to widely supported formats like MP3 for sharing or WAV for lossless archiving using specialized audio tools from developers like NCH Software. Rarely, you may also encounter this extension as a SQLite database file associated with NGP VAN software, used for voter data management, which requires database viewers to export to CSV.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VAC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JSP, BAK, ZIP, VDC, KVA, VA and DC files.

The VAC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VAC converter.
