About VAC files
The .VAC file extension primarily represents either a Virt-A-Mate Scene Package or a Voice Information Systems (VIS) recorded audio file. In Virt-A-Mate, these files bundle 3D models, textures, and scene setups into a single redistributable archive. In telecommunications, they store compressed proprietary voice recordings from automated systems or phone calls. A smaller percentage of .VAC files function as SQLite databases for the Voter Activation Network (VAN).
The primary disadvantage of the .VAC format is extreme file ambiguity. An audio .VAC file is highly proprietary, cannot be natively played on standard smartphones or web browsers, and is useless without legacy conversion tools. Conversely, Virt-A-Mate files are huge, closed archives that require specific folder structures to work.
Audio .VAC files must be converted to universal formats like MP3 or WAV to restore playback compatibility across modern devices. Because the Virt-A-Mate package is internally structured as a standard ZIP file, you can often rename the extension to extract the raw 3D assets, though in-game functionality will be lost outside the simulator.
Because this single extension is shared across vastly different, closed systems, it is notoriously difficult to process. Standard online converters fail because they cannot guess if the file is an audio track, a database, or a 3D game mod. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VAC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VAC file to VDC, KVA, VA, DC, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA or MB, you can use Virt-A-Mate or similar software from the "Game Mod & Audio Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The VAC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VAC converter.
