Convert a file to UZ
To convert other file formats to the "Compressed Game Archive" file type, you need software like Unreal Tournament or a similar tool.
About UZ files
The .UZ file format is a specialized compressed archive used by older iterations of Epic Games Unreal Engine, most notably in the Unreal Tournament series. These files are generated using the ucc compress command to shrink game assets - such as maps (Packages), textures, and sounds - facilitating faster downloads from game servers to client machines.
A common problem for users is that .UZ files are strictly for transport; they cannot be opened, edited, or even played by the game engine in this state. If you find these files in your cache or download them from a redirect server, they are essentially locked data. To make them usable for offline play or editing in UnrealEd, you must convert (decompress) them back to their original formats. Common conversion targets include UNR (Maps), UTX (Textures), and UAX (Audio).
Convert.Guru analyzes your UZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert UZ file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use Unreal Tournament or similar software from the "Game Asset Compression" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to UZ, try Unreal Tournament or another comparable tool in the "Game Asset Compression" category.
The UZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UZ converter.
