About UTP files

The .utp extension primarily refers to the BioWare Aurora/Odyssey Engine Placeable file, a blueprint used in games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. These files function as definitions for interactive objects (chests, furniture, terminals) within the game world, storing properties like inventory contents, lock difficulty, and appearance models in a proprietary GFF (Generic File Format) structure. Because they are binary game assets, they cannot be opened by standard text editors or image viewers.

A secondary but significant use is the Undertale Mod Patch, associated with the UndertaleModTool. These files contain script or asset deltas used to patch the main data.win game file, allowing modders to distribute changes without sharing the entire copyrighted game executable.
