About UT2 files
A .UT2 file is a proprietary game map file used by Unreal Engine 2 titles, most notably Unreal Tournament 2004 developed by Epic Games. It stores 3D terrain geometry, texture references, static meshes, lighting data, and spawn points for game levels. Alternatively, the extension is used as a data archive (KFXArchive) for titles published by Kingsoft.
The primary disadvantage of the .UT2 format is its closed, legacy binary architecture. It is strictly bound to a 2000s-era game engine. You cannot open these files natively in modern 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya. If you want to reuse the geometry, you must extract the internal assets into standard targets like OBJ or FBX. Keep in mind that exporting assets will strip away all map logic, triggers, and complex lighting calculations.
Because .UT2 is an obscure and highly specialized format, standard online converters fail to process it. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. While only the original game engine can properly render the map, convert.guru can still identify the file, inspect its hex contents, and show internal text strings. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your UT2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted 2DS, UT4MOD and UT2MOD files.

The UT2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UT2 converter.
