Extract text from iGO points of interest (UPOI)

The .UPOI file is a proprietary User Points of Interest file used by iGO Navigation software to store user-defined map locations, speed camera alerts, and favorite destinations.
This format was developed by NNG (formerly Nav N Go) specifically for their GPS navigation devices, head units, and mobile apps. Users typically manage these files directly within the iGO software interface to save custom waypoints.
The main disadvantage of the .UPOI format is its rigid ecosystem lock-in. You cannot natively import a .UPOI file into standard web browsers, Google Maps, or standard GIS tools. The files are often tightly coupled with the specific version of the iGO map data, and attempting to share your saved locations with a friend using a Garmin or TomTom device is impossible without data extraction.
To make this GPS data usable on other platforms, you need to convert it to universal targets like GPX (GPS Exchange Format) for maximum compatibility, KML for viewing in Google Earth, or CSV to review the raw coordinate data in a spreadsheet. Note that during conversion, custom iGO icons, speed cam directional vectors, or specific alert radius settings are usually lost.
Because .UPOI is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
