The .UND file extension is shared by several distinct applications. Most commonly, it acts as a game save file for the Undum interactive fiction framework or the game UnderMine, storing player progress in plain JSON text format. Alternatively, it is used as an imported document file for Seewo EasiNote, a stock screening definition file by Zacks Investment Research, or a Metasys Decompiled DDL file from Johnson Controls.
The main disadvantage of .UND files is their lack of standardization. The EasiNote, Zacks, and Metasys formats are highly proprietary and locked to their respective ecosystems. For example, Seewo EasiNote documents cannot be opened natively in standard web browsers or word processors. Users are forced to install specific desktop applications just to read the data. Standard online converters routinely fail to process these variants because the internal file encoding is closed and undocumented.
When converting these files, target formats depend entirely on the file's origin. JSON-based Undum saves can easily be converted to TXT or JSON for manual editing. For proprietary EasiNote documents, users generally want a PDF or DOCX, but this usually requires exporting directly from the native software.
