About UMP files

The .UMP file extension is primarily associated with UML Modeling Project files created by Altova UModel. These files store visual software design models using an underlying XML structure. Another significant use of the .UMP format is for Umple model source files, which blend UML concepts directly into programming languages like Java or C++. Less commonly, gamers might encounter .UMP files as game map painting data for the NCSoft Aion game, or as Universal Metabase Packages managed by HEAT Software.

Working with .UMP files can be frustrating. Because they are often proprietary or niche, opening them requires specific software installations. For example, an Altova UModel project relies heavily on application-specific XML tags that standard text editors cannot render visually. The Umple files require the specific Umple compiler to function. Sharing these files with team members or clients who lack the exact software version is usually impossible, and you cannot view them natively in web browsers.

When you need to share these diagrams or code, you must convert the .UMP file. The best target formats are PDF or image formats like PNG or JPG for sharing visual UML diagrams. If you only need the raw data, converting to XML or TXT is the most reliable fallback. However, standard online converters usually fail because they do not understand the proprietary XML schemas or the specialized Umple syntax required to render visual models.

This is a highly specialized format at the application level. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the visual data. Since many .UMP files use standard text or XML under the hood, our analysis can often extract the raw data even if the visual diagram cannot be fully reconstructed.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UMP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WFP, UVP and PKF files.

The UMP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UMP converter.
