About UMDX files
The .UMDX file primarily stores Unified Modeling Diagrams generated by Lucidchart or complex knowledge base networks created by TheBrain. Internally, a .UMDX file is structured as a compressed ZIP archive containing raw XML data and embedded visual assets. Users typically rely on these files to build software architecture diagrams, system flows, or hierarchical mind maps. However, sharing a .UMDX file in a professional environment is highly problematic. It is a proprietary format that locks data behind specific software ecosystems, often requiring the recipient to have a paid subscription to view or edit the document. Furthermore, standard web browsers, document viewers, and basic image editors cannot open it. To ensure accessibility and easy sharing, users must convert .UMDX files to universal targets like PDF for static documentation, or PNG and SVG for embedding into web pages and slide decks. Converting these files is difficult because standard online converters cannot interpret the complex, proprietary XML schemas hidden inside the archive. Often, only the original native application can accurately render and export the visual layout. Because .UMDX functions as a ZIP container, our tool can inspect the internal structure, extract the underlying XML text, and retrieve embedded images, helping you access your data even without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your UMDX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert UMDX file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Lucidchart or similar software from the "Diagram and Knowledge Base Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to UMDX, try Lucidchart or another comparable tool in the "Diagram and Knowledge Base Storage" category.
The UMDX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UMDX converter.
