About UFDR files

A .UFDR file is a mobile forensic data report created by Cellebrite Physical Analyzer or the UFED (Universal Forensic Extraction Device) system. Law enforcement, digital forensic examiners, and cybersecurity professionals use these files to package and share data extracted from smartphones, such as text messages, call logs, geolocation history, and media files. To open these files natively, users typically need the expensive main suite or the free standalone Cellebrite UFED Reader software. For more context on digital forensics, see the Wikipedia page for Cellebrite.

The main disadvantage of the .UFDR format is extreme proprietary lock-in. Files routinely exceed 50GB, require heavy Windows-only software to open, and cannot be viewed in standard web browsers or document readers. Sharing this evidence with non-technical stakeholders, like legal counsel or clients, is inherently frustrating because it requires them to install specialized forensic tools just to read a text message log.

Fortunately, the best conversion target is a simple extraction. Because a .UFDR file is internally just a standard ZIP archive, you can simply rename the extension and unpack it. The best alternative targets are the HTML, PDF, and XML report files hidden inside this archive.

This file format is difficult to open or convert with standard online tools because of its massive size and complex, proprietary forensic schema. Standard converters do not know how to parse the internal SQLite databases and media attachments. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can identify the file format, inspect the internal structure, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP archive format, viewing or extracting the embedded HTML reports may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UFDR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted UFWD, PDF, ZIP, JPG, CRDOWNLOAD and RAR files.

The UFDR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UFDR converter.
