The .UFDR file is a Universal Forensic Data Report, a specialized archive created by Cellebrite Physical Analyzer for sharing mobile forensic data. It functions as a self-contained case file, bundling extracted evidence - such as SMS logs, WhatsApp chats, location history, and images - into a single compressed package.
Users typically encounter this file during legal discovery or investigations. The primary difficulty is that .UFDR files are not standard documents; they are proprietary containers designed to be tamper-evident and secure. You cannot simply double-click them in Windows or macOS without specific software, and they often exceed several gigabytes in size. While the internal structure is essentially a ZIP archive containing XML data and media, accessing it directly breaks the forensic "chain of custody" structure.
To "convert" this file, the standard workflow is to open it with the free Cellebrite Reader and use the built-in export tools to generate a PDF (for court/printing), HTML (for interactive browser viewing), or Excel (for data sorting). For a quick workaround to access raw photos or videos without installing software, you can rename the extension to ZIP and extract the media assets directly.
