The .UCCAPILOG file is a Unified Communications Client API log file. It records SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) communications, network connections, and client-server interactions for troubleshooting Skype for Business and legacy Microsoft Lync environments.
Typically, these diagnostic files are parsed using Microsoft Snooper, a specialized tool included in the Skype for Business Server Resource Kit. Because they contain plain text or structured XML data, you can also inspect them using robust text editors like Notepad++.
However, .UCCAPILOG files present severe usability challenges. They are notoriously difficult to read without specialized parsers. Because they continuously log application events and raw network traces, these files can quickly grow beyond hundreds of megabytes. This massive size causes basic text editors, like Windows Notepad, to freeze or crash instantly. The raw data is cluttered with SIP headers and verbose diagnostic traces, making it overwhelming for non-technical users. Standard web browsers cannot open or display them natively.
To make the data accessible, we recommend converting .UCCAPILOG files to TXT for basic viewing, XML to maintain data structure, or extracting specific log events into CSV for spreadsheet analysis.
