To convert other file formats to the "Structured XML Data File" file type, you need software like Trimble Business Center or a similar tool.
The .TXL file format is highly fragmented, but it is primarily used as an internal XML format for two major enterprise applications: ERwin Logical Data Models by CA ERwin Data Modeler and Trimble XML files used in Trimble Business Center for surveying data. Less commonly, it acts as an encrypted instrument log for 10x Genomics, a 3D animation file for the legacy Tantra Online game, or a materials testing file for Controls Group UTM2.
The main disadvantage of the .TXL format is its strict reliance on proprietary, domain-specific schemas. Even though most of these files are just structured text, they require expensive enterprise software licenses to render visually. Without the original software, understanding the database relationships or geographic survey points is extremely tedious. Users often need to convert these files to share database schemas with developers or surveying data with field engineers who do not own the software.
For extraction, the best target formats are XML, TXT, or CSV. These formats retain the raw data but will lose all visual formatting, 3D modeling, and relational diagrams. Converting to a visual format like PDF or a CAD format like DXF is generally impossible without the native tools.
Because .TXL uses closed, proprietary schemas (and sometimes heavy encryption, as seen with 10x Genomics logs), standard online converters fail to process them into visual documents.
