Convert a file to TWS
To convert other file formats to the "Twine Story Project File" file type, you need software like Twine or a similar tool.
About TWS files
A .TWS file primarily functions as a project file for Twine, a popular open-source tool for creating interactive, non-linear stories. It stores the uncompiled passages, scripts, and node connections. Alternatively, the .TWS extension is used for workspace files in TextPad, XML-based barcode test reports generated by REA VERIFIER systems, and compressed screenshot data for Microsoft TouchDevelop.
Because .TWS files are working project containers, they are heavily tied to their native applications. A Twine .TWS file is a proprietary work-in-progress format; it cannot be played natively in a web browser. This limitation makes collaboration difficult, as users must install the exact software to read the raw source code. Sharing requires exporting the project.
To distribute your interactive fiction, you must convert the .TWS file to an HTML file. If you are dealing with REA VERIFIER reports, extracting the data to standard XML or PDF is the best approach. If the file is a TouchDevelop screenshot, extracting the internal ZIP archive will reveal the underlying image formats.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to process outside of its native environment. Standard online converters routinely fail to process .TWS files because they lack the Twine compiler needed to render story nodes or the specific parsers for TextPad workspaces. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like ZIP or XML, viewing or extraction is still possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TWS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The TWS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TWS converter.
