About TUR files
The .tur extension represents two completely different file types, creating frequent confusion. The most common modern use (approx. 23%) is a Cycling Tour Data file generated by HACtronic, the proprietary software for CicloSport cycling computers (like the HAC 4). These files store detailed ride telemetry including heart rate, altitude, speed, and cadence. The main limitation is that .tur is a closed, legacy format that cannot be directly uploaded to modern fitness platforms like Strava, Garmin Connect, or TrainingPeaks. To use your data, you must convert these files to GPX (universally compatible) or TCX (better for fitness data).
The second common use is a Turing Program Source File (approx. 15%), associated with the Turing programming language developed by Holt Software. These are plain text scripts used largely in Canadian computer science education. While you can open them with Notepad or TextEdit to view the code, they often require the specific (and now discontinued) Turing environment to execute. For archiving or sharing code without the compiler, users often convert these to PDF or standard TXT.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TUR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TUR file to JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO, RS or SWIFT, you can use HACtronic or similar software from the "Cycling Tour Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to TUR, try HACtronic or another comparable tool in the "Cycling Tour Data" category.
The TUR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TUR converter.
