About TUD files
A .TUD file primarily functions as an apparel pattern design file used by Tukatech TUKAcad. It stores 2D flat patterns, grading rules, and seam allowances for garment manufacturing. A secondary use is as an XML-based application form data file for the Technische Universität Dresden. The main disadvantage of the Tukatech .TUD format is its closed, proprietary nature. It locks users into an expensive software ecosystem and cannot be opened natively by standard vector tools like Adobe Illustrator. Sharing these files with partners using alternative CAD systems causes frustrating workflow bottlenecks. To solve this, users must convert .TUD files to standard DXF formats (such as AAMA or ASTM) for broad compatibility, or to PDF for direct plotter printing. Note that some data, like dynamic grading rules, may be lost or flattened during conversion. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert externally, third-party tools frequently fail to read the proprietary vectors. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
