About TTM files

The .TTM extension refers to two distinct but specialized 3D formats. The most common (approx. 69%) is the Trimble Terrain Model, a proprietary binary format used by Trimble hardware and software like Trimble Business Center to store Triangulated Irregular Networks (TIN). These files are critical for earthmoving operations and machine control systems but act as a "black box" for users outside the Trimble ecosystem. You cannot simply open a .TTM in AutoCAD or standard GIS viewers, forcing surveyors to request data exports.

To make this survey data usable in Civil 3D or other CAD platforms, users must convert .TTM to LandXML (for rich data retention) or DXF (for raw 3D face geometry). The second type (approx. 19%) is a Robot Simulation Model used by CoppeliaSim (formerly V-REP). These files store simulation meshes and scenes. Users often need to convert these locked simulation assets into OBJ or STL formats to edit the mesh in Blender or prepare it for 3D printing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TTM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XML, PNG, ZIP, ACSM, SSF, POS, SOI, DWG and DXF files.

The TTM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TTM converter.
