About TIX files
The .tix file extension is shared by three distinct, incompatible formats, often causing significant confusion for users.
1. DivX Video Download Ticket (Most Common Consumer Use) If you downloaded a movie and received a tiny .tix file (often ~4KB), this is not the video file. It is a temporary "ticket" or descriptor used by the DivX Player to validate a license and initiate the actual download of the DIVX or AVI video content. Users often attempt to convert this file to MP4, but this is impossible because the file contains no video data - only XML metadata and encryption keys. The only way to "open" it is to launch DivX Player and let it fetch the real media file.
2. AVEVA Tribon CAD Drawing In industrial and shipbuilding sectors, a .tix file is a vector drawing or index generated by AVEVA Tribon (formerly Kockums Computer Systems), a legacy suite for marine engineering. These files contain 2D/3D geometry for ship hulls and outfitting. Because Tribon M3 is a proprietary, legacy system, modern CAD tools like AutoCAD or Rhino cannot open these files directly. You typically need the original Tribon environment or AVEVA Marine to export the data to a standard format like DXF or IGES for archiving.
3. Haskell Program Coverage (HPC) Data For software developers, a .tix file stores runtime code coverage data generated by the GHC compiler with the -fhpc flag. These files track which parts of a Haskell program were executed during tests. They are binary or text-based data files, not meant for direct editing, and are converted into human-readable HTML reports using the hpc markup command.

The TIX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TIX converter.
