The .TIX file extension is associated with several entirely different software ecosystems, making it notoriously confusing to manage. Its most prominent use is as a Shipbuilding CAD drawing file within the AVEVA Tribon suite, an enterprise-grade engineering platform. Alternatively, it is widely encountered as a DivX Video-on-Demand (VOD) Ticket File. In this context, DivX Player uses the file to authenticate and activate DRM-protected video downloads. Other minor uses include developer Haskell Program Coverage data files and legacy Wang Imaging Tagged Image files.
Dealing with .TIX files is frustrating because these formats are either highly proprietary, locked behind DRM, or entirely obsolete. A DivX ticket file is strictly a license key locked to specific hardware and user accounts, meaning it cannot be converted into an actual video format. AVEVA Tribon CAD files are closed-ecosystem engineering documents; they require expensive enterprise software to open, and they cannot be natively viewed in standard browsers or simple CAD readers.
For CAD workflows, the ideal target formats are standard DWG, DXF, or PDF files, but exporting must typically be done inside the Tribon software itself. Legacy Wang Images should be converted to JPG or PNG for modern browser support.
