About TIK files

The .tik file extension is most commonly associated with Nintendo License Tickets. These files are used by Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Nintendo Switch consoles to authorize and decrypt digital games, updates, and downloadable content (DLC). They contain a cryptographic title key required by the console's operating system to run specific software. A secondary use for the .tik format is as a game model definition file in older PC games running on the Id Tech 3 engine, such as Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

These files are highly restricted. Nintendo tickets are encrypted, proprietary binaries that cannot be opened by standard operating systems or web browsers. They require specialized homebrew software, such as the FBI title manager for 3DS or Tinfoil for Switch, to install. Users often want to convert or extract them when managing game backups or dumping console data, but typical conversion to standard formats like PDF or TXT is impossible without losing the cryptographic data. If the file is an Id Tech model script, it is usually plain text and can be opened in any text editor, though converting it to modern 3D formats like OBJ or FBX requires engine-specific export tools.

Because .tik files are either heavily encrypted console tickets or obsolete game engine scripts, standard online converters always fail to process them. Often, only the original console hardware or specific modding tools can properly read the data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TIK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MPT, LQR and ARKTRIBE files.
