About TBR files
The .TBR extension is a classic example of file ambiguity, serving two completely unrelated industries: education and graphic design.
Most commonly, a .TBR file is a TestGen Test Bank, a proprietary format used by Pearson Education software. These files contain repositories of questions and answers used by instructors to compile exams. The primary friction here is accessibility; these files are useless without the specific TestGen application, which often requires an instructor login. Users typically need to convert these locked banks into DOCX (Microsoft Word) or PDF to actually print tests or distribute study guides.
Alternatively, if you work in digital art, your .TBR file is likely an Adobe Photoshop Custom Toolbar preset. These are small configuration files used to save specific workspace layouts. Unlike images, you cannot "open" these to view a picture; they must be loaded via the Adobe Photoshop interface (Edit > Toolbar > Load Preset) to restore a specific set of tools.
Less frequently, .TBR files appear as disk image backups created by Terabyte Unlimited utilities or old SoftRAID driver files. Regardless of the type, these formats are not browser-compatible and usually require conversion or specific host software to be useful.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TBR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TBR file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use TestGen or similar software from the "Test Bank Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to TBR, try TestGen or another comparable tool in the "Test Bank Storage" category.
The TBR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TBR converter.
