Extract text from TBP files

To convert other file formats to the "BIM Project Archive" file type, you need software like Tekla BIMsight or a similar tool.
The .tbp extension primarily represents a Tekla BIMsight Project package, a format used extensively in the construction industry for Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination. These files are container archives that bundle multiple 3D models (usually in IFC or DWG formats), along with clash detection notes, markups, and project documents. The main challenge users face today is that Tekla BIMsight has been discontinued and replaced by Trimble Connect, leaving many users with archived projects they cannot easily access. Because the format is proprietary to the legacy software, opening these files often requires migrating to the newer Trimble ecosystem or using a workaround. Interestingly, the .tbp file is technically a renamed ZIP archive; changing the extension to zip allows users to extract the raw 3D models inside without specialized software. For archiving or interoperability, extracting the internal IFC files is the best path.
A secondary but significant use of the extension is for Toon Boom Studio project files. These are vector-based animation projects created by software like Toon Boom Harmony. Users working with these files often encounter version incompatibility quirks, as files saved in newer versions of Harmony may not open in older editions of Studio. These files are strictly proprietary, making them impossible to edit without Toon Boom software. For sharing or web use, these projects must be exported (rendered) to standard video formats like MP4 or MOV, as browsers and media players cannot interpret the raw project data.
