Convert a file to SYN
To convert other file formats to the "Simulation Data File" file type, you need software like Trafficware Synchro Studio or a similar tool.
About SYN files
The .SYN file extension is heavily fragmented across multiple industries. Its most common use is as a Traffic Signal Analysis Model created by Trafficware Synchro Studio, a civil engineering suite used for intersection simulation. Alternatively, it functions as a Fire Alarm Configuration File for Kentec Syncro panels, a synthesizer preset for Synapse Audio Orion, or a synchronization marker for Android apps like SMS Backup & Restore and Syncthing.
The main disadvantage of .SYN files is their highly proprietary and closed nature. Because the extension is shared across unrelated fields, operating systems frequently misidentify the file. You cannot simply open a traffic simulation .SYN file in a standard web browser, and you typically need an expensive software license to properly view the specialized civil engineering data. These files also pose a significant compatibility challenge when sharing data with non-engineers.
Most standard online converters completely fail to process .SYN files because they lack the specific proprietary decoders for each unique variant. If you need to share the data, your best workaround is to export the reports directly from the original software to CSV, PDF, or standard XML formats.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert externally. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the binary data. However, just drag and drop your .SYN file into convert.guru to identify the exact format version and safely inspect the file's raw hex or text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or partial data extraction may still be possible.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your SYN file.
If you want to convert SYN file to CX, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC or APE, you can use Trafficware Synchro Studio or similar software from the "Traffic Signal Analysis Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to SYN, try Trafficware Synchro Studio or another comparable tool in the "Traffic Signal Analysis Model" category.
The SYN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SYN converter.
