Extract text from SWK files

The .SWK extension represents a convergence of several disparate proprietary formats, most notably serving as an External Editing file for EPLAN industrial automation software. In the engineering context, these files define schemes for exporting and importing project data (such as part lists or connection lists) to external tools like Microsoft Excel. The file acts as a configuration bridge, saving the settings used to map EPLAN internal properties to external columns.
The friction arises because .SWK files are strictly proprietary. An engineer cannot simply open them in a text editor or spreadsheet to view the mapping logic without the specific version of EPLAN Electric P8 licensed and installed. This creates a bottleneck when sharing configuration standards with clients or contractors who do not have the software. For EPLAN data, converting or parsing the .SWK to XML or TXT allows users to inspect the field mapping schema. For Mavis Beacon or Suzuki files, converting to TXT or CSV is often the only method to attempt data recovery.
