Extract text from Studio or PLC projects (STU)

The .STU file primarily functions as a video editing project file created by Pinnacle Studio. It saves the timeline layout, transitions, audio tracks, and references to the raw media files used in a video project. Alternatively, .STU files are used by Schneider Electric as Control Expert (formerly Unity Pro) PLC project archive files, which internally use standard ZIP compression to store automation code.
The main disadvantage of the Pinnacle Studio .STU format is its proprietary nature. It is heavily locked into the Pinnacle ecosystem. Furthermore, an .STU file is not an actual video; it only contains text paths pointing to the original media files on your hard drive. Because of this, it cannot be played in web browsers, uploaded to YouTube, or shared directly with clients. Users face the annoying limit of needing the exact software version and all original linked media to open the project properly.
To make a playable video, you must render the project from within Pinnacle Studio to standard targets like MP4, MKV, or AVI. Standard online video converters fail to process .STU files because they lack the required source video clips and the proprietary engine needed to render the timeline.
This file format is difficult to open or convert outside of its native environment. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, for the Schneider Electric variants, the file is essentially a renamed archive.
