About STACK files
A .stack file is most commonly a multimedia project created by HyperStudio, a classic authoring tool popular in education for creating interactive "stacks" of cards. Think of it as a scriptable ancestor to PowerPoint or Keynote.
The Problem: These files are proprietary legacy formats. You cannot open them in web browsers, Microsoft Word, or standard image viewers. Because they rely on the specific HyperStudio engine to interpret buttons, transitions, and scripts, users often find themselves unable to access old school projects or digital yearbooks without purchasing specific software or setting up an emulation environment.
The Solution:
For Viewing/Archiving: Convert the stack to PDF. This flattens the interactive cards into static pages, preserving the visual layout and text for easy reading on any device.
For Asset Recovery: Convert to JPG or PNG to extract the individual graphics from each card, or extract the audio clips.
For Game Files: In some niche cases (e.g., DevPro's Game Maker), a .stack file is simply a renamed ZIP archive. If your file is not from HyperStudio, try renaming it to zip to extract the internal game assets.
Convert.Guru analyzes your STACK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The STACK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STACK converter.
