About SSV files
The .SSV extension predominantly represents a Semicolon Separated Values file, a variation of the standard CSV format used for storing tabular data. These files are essential in regions where the comma is reserved as a decimal separator (such as in Europe), or when exported from enterprise systems like SAP SuccessFactors to handle complex datasets. While they contain plain text, the primary drawback arises when users attempt to open them in standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. Excel often defaults to comma delimiters, causing the entire row of data to collapse into a single unreadable column. Furthermore, .SSV is an ambiguous extension; it is also used for proprietary binary archives in legacy video games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and saved game states in ShadowFlare, which are completely incompatible with text editors. For data files, the best workflow is converting to XLSX for editing, CSV for universal compatibility, or JSON for web integration. For game files, standard converters will fail, requiring specific community modding tools.
