The .sso file is primarily an Oracle Wallet Single Sign-On credential cache used by Oracle Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware. It stores encrypted authentication data, typically under the filename cwallet.sso, allowing applications to connect to a database without explicitly sending passwords. A secondary, less common use for .sso files is as serialized game script objects within the Techland C-Engine, used in video game development.
The massive disadvantage of the .sso format is its highly proprietary and closed nature. Because it is designed for enterprise security, it relies on complex encryption and requires large, resource-heavy client installations to manage using tools like the orapki utility. It is not supported by web browsers, and losing the master wallet password can render the auto-login file useless.
Converting an .sso file into standard formats like PDF or DOCX is impossible without compromising its primary function. However, community modding tools can sometimes extract Techland C-Engine game files into XML or JSON.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is strict binary and heavily obfuscated. Standard online converters fail completely because they expect document or media data, not an encrypted authentication token. Often, only the original Oracle software can properly read or export the data.
