About SSL2 files

The .SSL2 file format is a proprietary data container used to store stage lighting fixture profiles. It maps DMX channels to physical hardware functions like pan, tilt, color mixing, and gobo wheels. These files are native to Nicolaudie Sunlite Suite 2 and often modified using their included ScanLibrary Editor. Some profiles are also cross-compatible with LightFactory. The primary disadvantage of the .SSL2 format is severe vendor lock-in. Because the DMX mapping structure is proprietary, you cannot easily move your custom fixture library to other lighting desks like an MA Lighting console or an Avolites system. Opening it without specific DMX software is normally impossible. Users often need to extract the raw DMX values to recreate the fixture in a different ecosystem. The most practical conversion targets are generic formats like XML, CSV, or TXT. Converting to these text-based formats strips away the 3D visualizer data and Nicolaudie-specific macros, but it rescues the raw channel data. The .SSL2 format is difficult to convert because lighting console manufacturers actively discourage cross-platform compatibility to protect their software ecosystems. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific parsing logic for Nicolaudie proprietary schema. However, you can use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, inspect the internal file structure, and extract readable text. If our analysis detects standard embedded structures, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SSL2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted R20, SSL, FXT and PFF files.

The SSL2 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SSL2 converter.
