These files store server connection settings, IP addresses, and broker parameters required for forex trading clients to connect to specific trading servers. Less frequently, .SRV files act as Survey Definition files containing UTF-8 text for Qualtrics or Dooblo Studio, or as Survey Parcel Data for Carlson Software. In some cases, web browsers download server-generated PDF documents from Java Servlet web applications with an .SRV extension due to server misconfiguration. The primary disadvantage of a MetaTrader .SRV file is that it is a highly specialized, proprietary binary format. It is locked to a specific trading ecosystem and requires a desktop installation to function properly. Standard text editors will display unreadable, scrambled characters, making it impossible to manually read the broker IP addresses or server names.
