To convert other file formats to the "Spectroscopy Data File" file type, you need software like Thermo Scientific VISIONpro or a similar tool.
About SRE files
The .SRE file extension is most commonly associated with Spectrophotometer data files generated by Thermo Scientific VISIONpro software. These files store raw UV-Vis spectroscopy data, capturing light absorption measurements used in chemical analysis. Alternatively, .SRE files can function as Speech recognition compiled grammar used by the Nuance Speech Recognition Engine, Motorola S-record data files containing ASCII hex data for microcontrollers (Wikipedia), or 3D objects for the game Live for Speed and SketchUp.
Users frequently need to convert .SRE files to share laboratory results or extract firmware data. However, the format poses significant challenges. As a proprietary laboratory format or a compiled binary for speech engines, .SRE files lack native support in standard operating systems, web browsers, or general data software. Opening them usually requires an expensive, restrictive software license. Standard online converters almost always fail to process them because the internal data structures are closed and undocumented.
Ideally, users should export .SRE spectroscopy data to standard formats like CSV, XLSX, or TXT from within the original Thermo Scientific software to prevent data loss. For Motorola S-records, conversion to BIN or HEX is the standard procedure.
Because these formats are highly specific, third-party conversion is extremely difficult. Even if full conversion is blocked by proprietary encoding, our tool can identify the exact file format and inspect its internal structure. If our analysis detects an underlying embedded text format, such as ASCII hex in an S-record, viewing the raw content will be successful.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SRE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SRE file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Thermo Scientific VISIONpro or similar software from the "Spectrophotometer Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to SRE, try Thermo Scientific VISIONpro or another comparable tool in the "Spectrophotometer Data Storage" category.
The SRE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SRE converter.
