Convert a file to SP3
To convert other file formats to the "Geodetic Data File" file type, you need software like RTKLIB or a similar tool.
About SP3 files
The .SP3 file extension is most commonly associated with Standard Product 3 files, an ASCII-based data format developed by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS). These files store highly precise satellite orbit and clock data used in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) processing. A secondary, obsolete use is as a Windows XP Service Pack 3 Identification File created by Microsoft to mark system update statuses. To view or parse NGS SP3 files, professionals rely on specialized software like RTKLIB or scientific suites like Bernese GNSS Software. The primary disadvantage of the .SP3 format is its highly specialized nature. Standard applications cannot interpret the coordinate matrices and epoch data natively. The format is rigid, and variations like SP3-a, SP3-c, and SP3-d can cause compatibility issues with older GNSS processing tools. Users typically need to convert .SP3 files to TXT or CSV for custom data analysis in custom tools or spreadsheets, or to standard NAV (RINEX) files for broader software support. Standard online converters fail because they do not understand GNSS ephemeris matrices or obscure OS markers. Furthermore, if the file is a legacy Windows XP system marker, it contains no useful user data and converting it is pointless. Because these are specialized or system-level files, they are difficult to handle with generic tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SP3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SP3 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use RTKLIB or similar software from the "Satellite Orbit Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SP3, try RTKLIB or another comparable tool in the "Satellite Orbit Data Storage" category.
The SP3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SP3 converter.
