About SNF files

The .snf extension is a classic "container conflict" used by three distinct industries, often causing confusion for users trying to open them.

  1. Starry Night Pro Document: The most common consumer use is by Starry Night, a premier astronomy simulation suite. These files store viewing preferences, telescope settings, and sky data. They are proprietary and generally cannot be opened by other astronomy tools like Stellarium.
  2. SaniNet Project File: In the interior design world, .snf files are created by SaniNet software to save 3D bathroom designs. These are strictly vector/3D project files, meaning you cannot double-click to view them in a standard photo viewer. Users often need to convert these to PDF or JPG to share layouts with clients who don't have the €1,000+ software installed.
  3. ShoeLast / Singer Embroidery: A niche manufacturing use covers shoe design (ShoeLast CAD) and legacy embroidery files for Singer Futura machines. These contain stitch or vector instructions for manufacturing hardware.

The Problem: None of these formats are compatible with each other. A Starry Night file will crash SaniNet, and vice versa. They are typically locked to their original software, making "conversion" difficult without the native application.
