Convert SKC to another file type
To convert SKC Sketches to another format, you need BIOVIA Draw or other Data software.
Convert a file to SKC
To convert other file formats to the "Chemical Drawing File" file type, you need software like BIOVIA Draw or a similar tool.
About SKC files
The .SKC file format is primarily recognized as a Chemical Structure Sketch created by BIOVIA Draw (formerly known as Symyx Draw or ISIS/Draw). These files store 2D representations of molecular structures, chemical reactions, and biological sequences. A secondary, but highly prevalent, use for the .SKC extension is as a BIM Model Classification file used by Solibri Model Checker. The main disadvantage of the .SKC chemical sketch format is its highly proprietary nature. It requires specialized, expensive scientific software to open, edit, or view. Users trying to share chemical structures with peers who do not possess BIOVIA Draw will find the .SKC file unreadable. Standard web browsers and image viewers do not natively support this format. To ensure compatibility, users frequently need to convert .SKC files into standard chemical formats like MOL (MDL Molfile), SDF (Structure-Data File), or CDX (ChemDraw Exchange). For simple viewing or publication, exporting to PDF, PNG, or SVG is recommended, though this converts the structured chemical data into a flat visual representation that can no longer be mathematically calculated. Converting .SKC files is exceptionally difficult for standard online converters because the structure relies on proprietary encoding specific to Dassault Systèmes rendering engines. Often, only the original software can properly parse and export the internal coordinate and bonding data. If our analysis detects that your file is a Solibri classification file (which is internally a ZIP archive) or a Trane HVAC configuration (which relies on XML), our platform can inspect the embedded data, extract plain texts, and facilitate conversion to universally accessible formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SKC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SKC file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use BIOVIA Draw or similar software from the "Chemical Structure Sketch Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SKC, try BIOVIA Draw or another comparable tool in the "Chemical Structure Sketch Storage" category.
The SKC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SKC converter.
