Convert SKA to another file type

To convert SKA Animations and designs to another format, you need 3ds Max or other 3D software.

Convert a file to SKA

To convert other file formats to the "Animation / Design Data" file type, you need software like 3ds Max or a similar tool.

About SKA files

The .SKA file extension is most commonly used for two entirely different purposes: Skeletal Animation data files used by game engines like CryEngine, and Closet Design configuration files created by SK-Armarios (Diseno3D) software. The gaming variant stores complex bone structures, riggings, and joint data necessary for rendering character movements in 3D environments. The design variant stores parametric measurements and spatial configurations for custom cabinetry.

To open the animation variant natively, you typically need 3ds Max equipped with specialized exporter plugins, or the CryEngine editor itself. The closet design variant requires the niche, proprietary SK-Armarios software.

Users often need to convert .SKA files because of their severe limitations. They are highly proprietary, lack native support in standard operating systems or web browsers, and often require expensive software subscriptions (like $235/month for 3ds Max) just to view the contents. Sharing these files with clients or external developers is practically impossible without conversion.

For 3D skeletal animations, the best conversion targets are FBX or OBJ, which are universally accepted in 3D pipelines. However, be aware that complex rig bindings or proprietary physics constraints may break during translation. For the SK-Armarios closet designs, converting to PDF or JPG is recommended for client review, though you will lose the interactive 3D parametric data.

This format is notoriously difficult to process because the data structures are closed and undocumented. Often, only the original authoring software can properly read or export the complex embedded geometries and hierarchies. However, you can use convert.guru. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format version, view internal metadata or text, and convert it when our engine detects supported underlying embedded data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SKA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SKEL, BMD and DLR files.

FAQ

If you want to convert SKA file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use 3ds Max or similar software from the "Skeletal Animation & Closet Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to SKA, try 3ds Max or another comparable tool in the "Skeletal Animation & Closet Design" category.

The SKA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SKA converter.
