About SK files
The .SK file extension is notoriously fragmented. Most commonly, it is a Skript file - a plain-text, UTF-8 encoded script used to add custom mechanics to Minecraft servers running Spigot or Paper without requiring custom Java code. However, .SK is also heavily used as a Silver Key encrypted archive created by Jetico BestCrypt, as well as legacy vector drawings from Skencil or mobile artworks from the discontinued Sony Sketch app. The main disadvantage of .SK files is this sheer ambiguity. If you try to open a .SK file without knowing its origin, your operating system will likely fail or display gibberish. Minecraft scripts are readable in any text editor, but they are useless outside a server environment. Silver Key files are locked black boxes that require a password and proprietary decryption software. Sony Sketch and Skencil formats are effectively dead, trapping your artwork in unsupported proprietary containers. To break out of these limitations, conversion is essential. If you have a Skript file, convert or rename it to .TXT or .MD for easier sharing on forums or code repositories. For legacy drawing files, convert them to .SVG for editing in Adobe Illustrator or .PNG for web distribution. Note that encrypted .SK files cannot be directly converted; they must be decrypted first.
