To convert other file formats to the "Project Backup Archive" file type, you need software like zenon or a similar tool.

About SIC files

A .SIC file generally serves one of three distinct functions in enterprise environments: a zenon project backup archive developed by COPA-DATA, a Payroll data import file for the DATEV LODAS accounting software, or a Website indexing job file for SimpleIndex. The most common variant, the zenon backup, is internally formatted as a standard ZIP compressed archive holding automation project assets. DATEV payroll files are structured data imports containing sensitive employee compensation records. SimpleIndex configuration files utilize UTF-16 (LE) text encoding to store sitemap or job execution settings.

Users struggle with .SIC files because they are highly proprietary and application-specific. Opening a DATEV import file without an expensive enterprise subscription to specialized German accounting software is impossible, and the data formatting is locked down. Furthermore, zenon backups require the exact version of the industrial automation software to restore the project environment properly, acting as a black box to standard operating systems.

If you possess a zenon .SIC file, the best conversion target is a standard ZIP archive, which allows you to extract the underlying XML files, graphics, and configuration assets. For DATEV files, converting to CSV or XML is ideal for database portability, though you risk losing proprietary calculation logic.

Because these are closed, proprietary formats tied to niche enterprise applications, standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. Our platform can inspect the file, revealing if it is a ZIP-wrapped zenon backup or a UTF-16 text configuration, allowing you to access the embedded content even without the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SIC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SIG, PDF, ZEN, USR and FEX files.

The SIC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SIC converter.
